ORDINATION:
Mark Eric Latsch, who is serving the Lord as the called Pastor of Eternal Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae, WI, was formally ordained at a special service held in Minocqua, WI. This took place July 10, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lakeland High School lecture hall where the 2002 ILC Delegate convention was to be held. There were 28 souls present for this special occasion. We wish him The Lord's greatest blessings as he continues to dedicate his life to the work of Our Triune God in his calling and as the shepherd of Christ's "little flock" in Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin; preaching, teaching and administering the Sacraments in Jesus' name.

Romans 10:10 "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Matthew 10:32 "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven."
Rejoicing, we commend her for her confession of God's Truth and pray that He keep her strong in the true faith unto life everlasting.

I Know My Faith is Founded -- TLH #381
I know my faith is founded - On Jesus Christ, my God and Lord;
And this my faith confessing, - Unmoved I stand upon His Word.
Increase my faith, dear Savior, - For Satan seeks by night and day
To rob me of this treasure - And take my hope of bliss away.
In faith, Lord, let me serve Thee; - Tho' persecution, grief, and pain
Should seek to overwhelm me, - Let me a steadfast trust retain;

2002 ILC Summer Delegate Convention Sermon
Text Isaiah 6:8
"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom
shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I;
send me."
Fellow redeemed sinners, redeemed by the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
Our text for today is a short but very rich portion of God's Word. The prophet Isaiah penned these words which were given to him by the Holy Ghost. Isaiah was exceptionally blessed with visions from the Lord and he had a firm faith in the true God and Savior; perhaps that is why the name of the prophet Isaiah means: "the salvation of Jehovah"or "Jehovah has saved".
In view of our Scripture selection and with the help of the Holy Ghost, let us consider as our theme for this morning's sermon:
"BE A WILLING WORKER FOR THE LORD!"
See that to be such you must
1) Know the Lord
2) Listen to the Lord
3) Have the proper attitude for serving the Lord
1)
Isaiah knew the Lord, he knew who the true God was and is. Our text refers to God singularly with the word "Lord" and in the plural with the word "us". The Lord used the same type of terminology way back in Genesis 1:26, where we read, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." The true God is the triune God and that is the God whom Isaiah knew. The thrice Holy God is mentioned just prior to our text, where Isaiah wrote in verses 1 through 3 (chapter 6):
If you look at verse 3 in particular you will see that the word "LORD" is spelled out in capital letters; whenever you see it printed that way in your King James Version of the Bible, it means that it is a translation of the Hebrew name of God "Yehovah" or "Jehovah", meaning "the existing One". Note also that in verse three this ONE God is called "Holy" THREE times, thus indicating the three persons of the Trinity.
How can we be sure that Isaiah believed this way concerning the Lord? Because Isaiah makes it crystal clear in other places in the book which bears his name. For example, chapter 1, verse 10, we read,
Note again that the word "LORD" is in capital letters, denoting "Jehovah the existing one". In this verse the LORD is also called "God" -in the Hebrew "eloheem"- which is PLURAL. So, the "existing ONE" is at the same time PLURAL three persons, yet one God.
Another example is found in Isaiah 48:16, when the pre-incarnate Christ says,
In this verse the only begotten, eternal Son speaks of being sent by the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Furthermore, we can compare Isaiah 61:1-2 with Luke 4:16-21 for yet another clear picture Isaiah gives us of the Trinity. We read in Isaiah 61:1-2:
and, Luke 4:16-21 relates,
Thus we know that Isaiah spoke of Jesus; Isaiah knew the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost three distinct Persons, but One God.
The truth of the Triune God is most clearly put forth to us in the Bible in 1 John 5:7, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." There is only one true God and He is the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost He is the God which Isaiah knew and which all men must know in order to be saved.
Why was it necessary for Isaiah to know the true God in order to be saved? Why is it necessary for you, me, and all men to know the true God in order to be saved? Because of the second Person of the Holy Trinity -Jesus Christ- Acts 4:12 declares: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." The only TRUE JESUS is the second Person of the Trinity the only begotten Son of the Father.
Indeed, we must know the true God because it is impossible for us to save ourselves. We were born in sin:
"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." (Psalm 51:5). We commit all manner of sins against the high and holy God: "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." (Ecclesiastes 7:20). Thus by nature we are the children of wrath, children of disobedience, children of the devil, and God's enemies!
It is utterly impossible for us to do any work pleasing to God in our natural, sinful condition; we cannot pay for even one single sin, let alone all of them!
In our natural state, as a result of our sinfulness and inability to pay for our sins, we are under the just sentence of the Holy God, Who declares: "...the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). If left totally to ourselves we would all suffer not just temporal death but eternal death and damnation in hell, for Holy Writ states: "The soul that sinneth, it shall die..." (Ezekiel 18:20) Soul and body would suffer eternally in hell which the Bible describes as a place, "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:44).
But our gracious God did not leave us with no way out which He had every right to do rather, God sent a Way for us to escape eternal death and damnation: God sent His only-begotten Son Jesus Christ to keep the law perfectly in our place and to endure the eternal punishment which we deserved.
Jesus suffered the torments of hell for you and for me, yea for all men, while He hung on that cross. The holy blood of Jesus, the sinless Son of God, true God and true Man, the spotless Lamb of God, "...cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). That is why one must know the Lord: because there is no salvation outside of the true God!
There is more however to knowing the Lord than just knowing of Him. As we considered earlier, Isaiah knew the true God to be the Triune God Isaiah knew it in his heart, he had trust and confidence in the true God, Isaiah had faith. Isaiah believed in the Messiah who was to come, Isaiah believed in Jesus as his personal Savior. Isaiah knew that the heavenly Father would send His only-begotten Son to redeem the world, Isaiah knew the Holy Spirit the Spirit which moved him to write the words of our text. How do we know that this is the case with Isaiah? Just think of the many Messianic prophecies contained in the book of Isaiah, for example, Isaiah 7:14,
And, read the 53rd chapter of Isaiah sometime, which describes the Savior's sufferings in great detail.
Indeed, Isaiah knew Jesus as his Savior, he accepted the Messiah who was to come and trusted in Him for salvation. You, me, and all people must know the Lord as Isaiah did, that is, we must know that the only true God is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Furthermore, we must know the Messiah who has come, that is, we must have a heart-deep and full trust, confidence, and reliance in Jesus Christ as our personal Rescuer from ruin. May we always cling to Christ as our Savior and Lord, for in order to be a willing worker for the Lord one must know the Lord.
2)
The next point we will consider from our text is that Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord. That is something that you and I need to do: hear the voice of the Lord listen to the Lord. We do not have the Lord speaking with us in a vision directly with a voice as Isaiah did here in our text, but we have the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, to listen to. Those who know the Lord, those who would be willing workers for the Lord, will listen to His Word when it is preached, study His Word in Bible classes and so forth, and also privately read the Scriptures daily, for
"He that is of God heareth God's words..." (John 8:47).
If you believe in Jesus as your Savior, realize that you received your faith by the power of the Holy Ghost working through the Word, as Romans 10:17 relates,
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." 1st Corinthians 12:3 adds:
"...no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost". Yes, it is as Paul declares in Romans 1:16-17,
Truly the Word of God is powerful, it has life-changing power. By the Word of the Gospel we receive faith, a faith which grasps the gift of forgiveness of sins earned by Christ, a faith which receives the perfect righteousness of Christ which is imputed to the believer the righteousness which avails before God. Remember: without Christ neither you, nor I, nor anyone has the righteousness required for entrance to heaven. Therefore, thank God for giving us His Word and preserving it to us!
Take it to heart that one is not "done" with God's Word once they are converted. Jesus instructs believers in John 8:31-32:
To be a willing worker for the Lord you must listen to the Lord! Study the Holy Bible to receive proper direction and guidance in your life! An hour or two on Sunday morning is good, but not enough. Contrary to the opinion of some, you're not "done" with God's Word when you're Confirmed. You're not "done" with God's Word on your 30th birthday, or your 40th, or 50th, or 60th, or 70th, or any other birthday; you need God's Word your whole life my friend.
Where else but in the Holy Bible could you possibly go and get the right answers for all of the questions that you have regarding this life and more importantly the life to come? Will the great gurus of modern thought with their new-age mumbo-jumbo be able to give you real answers and genuine hope? NO WAY! How about the scientific community, which is really science falsely so-called (1 Tim. 6:20)? NO WAY! False-science is still so mixed up they can't even tell you how human beings got here. The so-called scientists are still debating over big-bangs, cosmic dust, missing links, monkeys, or some piece of slime being the originator of man. They disagree with each other on counting their so-called years of the earth's existence and therefore can't really say if the earth is thousands, millions, billions, or trillions of years old. Every time they run into any real scientific evidence which proves their theories wrong, they simply add-on a few millions or billions of years or so to their evolution-equation. Ridiculous and absurd! Yet they teach such garbage in our nation's public schools, and it is touted as the dependable assured results of painstaking research what foolishness! And what of eternity, the next life; do modernists and pseudo scientists give any hope to men on these matters? Maybe a little false hope, but nothing more.
Know this fact and know it well: nothing which sinful, rebellious men dream up can bring you, me, or anybody one inch toward the true God. Even the natural knowledge of God knowledge of God from the existence of the world and our conscience cannot get anyone into heaven; only the revealed knowledge of God the knowledge of God from the Holy Scriptures can accurately inform and instruct people as to who the true God is and His plan of salvation which He designed from eternity and implemented in time in the person of Jesus Christ. Consequently, it is essential that men, women, and children listen to the Lord in His Word.
Realize that in God's Word we have all the answers we need for any question regarding this life or the next. For example, the Bible plainly tells us how the world came into being, how life originated, and where man came from: ALL came into existence by the creative power of the Almighty God by His Word! True science agrees fully with the statements of the Bible, yet most importantly, the Holy Scriptures tell us the only way to heaven: Jesus Christ, who tells us plainly in John 14:6,
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
So remember that in order to be a willing worker for the Lord you must listen to Him: always listen to His Word and believe what He tells you therein.
3)
The final point which we will consider from our text is that in order to be a willing worker for the Lord you and I must have the proper attitude for serving Him. Isaiah had a proper attitude as we can see from his response to the Lord's question in our text:
Think about how Isaiah answered the Lord: Did he say, "Lord, I need time to think it over"? Did he say, "Lord I'm too busy"? Did he say, "Get someone else"? Did he say, "I don't have the required talents to do what you ask"? Did Isaiah use any of the manifold excuses which we all tend to dream up when asked to serve the Lord? NO! Isaiah immediately volunteered to do the Lord's work! That is the attitude which you and I need to have. It has been rightly stated by some of our ILC brethren that it is all too common that when people of the Conference pastors and laymen alike are nominated for an office they decline. Oh, there is always some supposedly good excuse we've all used them; but is that the attitude which we should display towards serving the Lord? NO WAY! May we repent of our sinful, slacker-type behavior. Fortunately our Lord Jesus has paid for that sin too, along with all the rest.
Was Isaiah threatened by God to serve Him? NO! Nor should you and I feel compelled by God's Law to serve Him. The Lord wants us to be WILLING servants of Him and the cause of the Gospel. Romans 14:23 informs us that "...whatsoever is not of faith is sin." We had better be doing service for the Lord out of "...faith which worketh by love" (Galatians 5:6) and not by coercion, anything less is sin and not service. For an example of willing service consider the Macedonian churches, we read in 2 Corinthians 8:1-4:
The Macedonian Christians pleaded with Paul and his coworkers to take the more-than-generous contribution which they had gathered for their fellow Christians. Such an unselfish and generous attitude in helping our brothers and sisters in Christ should be our goal too!
Consider also Paul's attitude of unselfish service towards unbelievers, we read in Romans 9:1-3:
So deeply did Paul care for the souls of others that he would go so far as to wish himself accursed from Christ. May we display the same care and concern for our fellow men who do not yet know Christ!
What then is to be your motivation for being a willing worker for the Lord? A thankful heart for what Christ has done for you! 1 John 4:19 tells us straight out: "We love him, because he first loved us." It is not possible for we Christians who have experienced the love of Christ, not to love Him in return. Let us endeavor to show Jesus our love by willing service. Show that your faith is alive!
"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." (James 2:17)
Let us not fall for Satan's tricks for he is the one who incites us not to be willing workers for the Lord. Yes, the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh are what is responsible for our often lack of enthusiasm for service to Christ and His Church. On the other hand, the Psalmist urges us: "Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing." (Psalm 100:2) Accordingly, pray fervently for the strength to joyfully and willingly serve the Lord!
Isaiah willingly volunteered to go for the Lord, to do what the Lord wanted. The Lord wanted him to "Go and tell", says the verse immediately following our text (Isaiah 6:9). Isaiah was a willing worker in spreading the Lord's Words, not his own. That is necessary for us to remember too: we must go forward willingly doing the Lord's work, spreading HIS WORD and not some half-baked social message of our own devising. There are more than enough heterodox churches in existence, spreading their poisonous false doctrines, false Bibles, false gospel, and a false "Jesus". We orthodox Lutherans are blessed in that we have the full truth of God's Word we have the true doctrines, we have the true Bible, we have the true Gospel, and we have the true Jesus! Let us not be content with keeping this to ourselves but rather let us reach out to the lost in every way possible. The eternal destiny of people -soul and body- is on the line. None of us wants to see anyone end up in hell because we did not do all we could do to reach out with the Gospel of Christ. The great commission still applies:
The same Word which converted you and me still has that power, the Holy Ghost still works through the Word that is God's way of converting sinners: crush hearts with the Law of God and then lift them up with the consoling Gospel of Jesus Christ! Luke 24:46-47 tells it straight: "...Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." We need to get the Word out!
Look to your beautiful Savior Jesus Christ, who unselfishly came to this earth taking upon Himself the form of a servant in the womb of the Virgin Mary -becoming a true man- living the perfect life of obedience to God's commands that none of us has done or can do, and then dying for our sins on the torturous timbers of Calvary's cross -spilling His pure, holy, precious blood for your sins and mine. May that view of Christ Jesus our Redeemer and Lord motivate each and every one of us to say with Isaiah, "Here am I; send me". Oh, not all of you are called to be pastors, however, all Christians are called upon to witness for Christ, to testify of their Savior, for 1 Peter 3:15 instructs: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear". Therefore, be like Isaiah, be a willing worker for the Lord. Amen.
M.E.L.

Highlights of the 24th Annual
ILC Delegate Convention
Hosted by
Eternal Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church
Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin
Mark E. Latsch - Pastor
July 11, 2002
The convention's opening worship service was conducted by Pastor Mark Latsch in the High School auditorium. The opening hymn: #451 "Stand up - Stand up for Jesus". Pastor Latsch preached on Isaiah 6:8, with the theme:
" Be a willing worker for the Lord ."
There were 29 souls worshipping together, and the closing hymn was #509 "There still is room."
Conference reports:
President: Vice President Pastor Popp had nothing official to report, but made a brief statement about staying firm in the True Word - the King James Bible - avoiding other "Bibles" to avoid confusion. He cited an example of a Pastor at a lecture once long ago who was terribly embarrassed when he forgot which bible version he was quoting from! -- Be warned! --
Know the True Bible and study it well.!!!
When we resumed at 1:30, the Conference Visitor had no report to make, as no visits had been made.
The Lutheran Reformation Hour: Pastor Popp said he was sorry that the Newsletter is behind three months. He still has about 100 letters to answer. Some folks from Nebraska came to visit him, having heard the Lutheran Reformation Hour on the radio. Also, there are about 3600 LRH taped sermons to be put on CD's. He reported that "short-wave radio broadcasting" reaches many countries with just one station broadcast. They have no other means [of getting the word of God] because when we have tried to send Bibles [to Africa for instance] the government destroys them. The Lutheran Reformation Hour is all they have to hear the Gospel Truth of Salvation in Christ.
Lutheran Theological Studies Center: A brief summary by Pastor Latsch -- The Pastors had a discussion on July 10 that there is no central location at present, rather each Pastor begins the training of men in his own congregation. The foundation is firm for all study [please see your Pastor for more details].
The motto for what is right?: Scripture interprets Scripture -- Scripture is never wrong!
July 12, 2002
Day two began with the usual cordiality as we set up, and then, the "call to order" -- and we opened with a hymn and prayer.
Education Committee:
This committee proposes the reprinting of "comparisons" that would be available for widespread distribution by all our congregations.
Doctrine Committee:
We, the Doctrine Committee, at this present time, have no controversial doctrinal issues to report. However, research is being conducted, in regards to publications allowed into the ILC Journal. An official statement is pending.
Missions Committee:
This committee proposed hanging leaflets to distribute - door knobs, car door handles, etc. Message on it and place for local church to stamp.
Also, "Treasury Box" for parents to give children, include Bible, hymnal, prayer book, places for family pictures, etc. Where to look up different situations -- as a family heirloom and possible gift for others.
The officers elected for 2002 - 2003:
President Pastor Wayne A. Popp
Vice President Pastor Mark E. Latsch
Secretary Mr. Dave R. Yeomans
Treasurer Mr. Charles Clubb III
Visitor Pastor Richard R. Finke
Missionary at Large -- vacant --
Historian Mr. Dave R. Yeomans
ILC Journal editor(s) Pastor Latsch and Pastor Loeffler
The issue of reprinting "Comparisons" was brought up, and after some discussion, and with the permission of Pastor Popp, (one of the researchers of the original publication) it was moved, seconded, and passed by everyone, to authorize the reprinting of "Comparisons" with the old Lutheran Reformation Hour address and phone number updated on the first page and back cover; and adding Pastor Popp's name; and affiliation with the ILC of both he and Pastor Shekner noted behind their names.

Pastor Finke presented the first 14 pages of his paper on "Eschatology". It's presentation will be resumed next year.
A special thanks was extended to Pastor Clubb for all his work of the past years as editor and publisher of the ILC Journal and dedicated service to the kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
It was also expressed, that since the ILC Journal is an outreach of sound doctrine in God's Truth, we want to get it out to as many as will have it. Everyone is therefore urged to pass copies along to friends, loved ones, coworkers, etc. We will be happy to print more to keep up with an increased demand.
Conference business being completed, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Lennox, Illinois, volunteered to host the 2003 Summer Convention, which dates are scheduled for:
July 9, (Pastors) and July 10 & 11, (Pastors and delegates).
The Conference, Pastors and delegates extend a cordial and sincere "Thank You" to Eternal Savior for hosting this meeting, and likewise to the ladies for their hospitable luncheon.
We closed the conference together with The Lord's Prayer and the Benediction.
We pray that more of you in our fellowship will attend with us next summer, working together with us for the furtherance of the Kingdom of Our Gracious Triune God.
God bless you, in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior!
